Were is your Heart?

Were is your Heart?

Joel 2:12-13 – Return to Me with all your heart and rend your heart and not your garments.”

heart with thorns

What Is the “heart “as spoken of in the scriptures? It is mentioned 876 times, so I thought let’s look at the importance of the “heart”.

First let’s look at the original Greek meaning for the word heart. (Kardia) – It means the inner life, or self, center. It is the effective center of our being. My heart is the center of Jamell so to speak.

I believe God has placed this topic on my Heart because of the current condition of the church. Jesus said in Luke 18:8 “when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth”. I have found this is a message most people just don’t want to hear, and so preachers just don’t preach it. 2 Timothy 4:3 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires. These are teachers who cause confusion in the body and separation, they hide from the difficult things in the word and fill the body with only the grace of Christ. Jesus said we must worship in spirit and in truth. We can not hide or run from the WHOLE truth of the word we must endure. 2 Peter 3:16 – as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

The heart, the heart is all GOD keeps saying to me. Saying this to me about myself and about the body of Christ. The heart, the heart. Why do we continue to think we can keep our heart and still be acceptable to God? Why do we continue to think there is something good in our hearts? I have a friend of mine who just the other day asked me a very hard question. Now this friend of mine is a Buddhist, and we have had our fair share of talks (debates, lol) about Jesus and the Buddhist religion. Well the question he asked was “ok what I don’t get about the Christian religion is there is typically no change in their lives”. I am saddened to say this broke my heart because it is very true. Myself included have not always lived in accordance to what I confessed.

So, because of this conversation I have felt lead to speak to the Heart about the Heart. Brothers and Sisters, don’t you know we have been called to be changed people? The word of God is very clear on this topic, and as such please follow me as we take an in depth look on Gods view of the Heart.

The first thing we need to know and see is how God views our hearts. Remember as a Christian we must base everything off the word of God, not the word of man. Man will let you down, and potentially lead you astray, but God is not man that He should lie. We first see in Genesis 6:5 what Gods thoughts are on our heart condition. Genesis 6:5 – Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. This is the true condition of man in his separation from GOD. Even when you receive Jesus as savior, your heart condition stays the same. Therefore, we must die to self-daily. God has set the terms and as such our hearts have been deemed wicked, and every intent of them evil continually. Wow I mean every intent it doesn’t matter what you are trying to do, in and of your self God calls that wickedness and evil… Now this was all antediluvian (before the flood of Noah) that God said this and as such because of the wickedness of man He destroyed the entire world with a flood.

Now let’s fast forward to the Post-diluvian world (after the flood) and see what God has to say. Genesis 8:21 – The LORD smelled the soothing aroma; and the LORD said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done. Wow from man’s youth his heart is ever evil.

SO, we can see very clearly from the fall of Adam man’s heart has been wicked, and his every thought and intent evil before God. The Lord has said “there is no one who does good. The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. (Psalm 14:1-3).

SO, God has made it very clear as to what He feels about the heart of man. Well one thing we know about God is he has always offered a way out!! Praise the Lord! I know some people don’t believe there is much use for the old testament, but I believe all scripture is good for teaching. So, with that thought let’s look at

Jeremiah 4:4 – “Circumcise yourselves to the LORD And remove the foreskins of your heart.

Deuteronomy 30:6 – “Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.

Deuteronomy 10:16- “So circumcise your heart and stiffen your neck no longer.

God is clearly telling us to cut off, remove, take away our heart. He is telling us this very clearly, and precise. What good is your heart to you if it can never please God. What good is your heart to you if you keep chasing the desires of it. This heart of stone needs to be thrown off and replaced. This is not something that can be done with human hands or human effort. God is the one who changes us, He is the one who completes us.

Ezekiel 36:26 – “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

My friends I implore you. If you have been changed by the hand of God, If He has removed your cold heart of stone and replaced it with a heart of flesh, then know you are different. You are new. You are no longer “you”, but Christ now lives in you! Praise God!!

Ephesians 2:1-5 –  And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.  4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

You have been moved from the way in which you used to walk, you are now alive with a heart of flesh with Christ Jesus. You are a new Creation old things have passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17) I urge you to move in this newness. If in fact you have been made new, then the fact of the matter is you can no longer produce bad fruit for the word says.

Matthew 12:33-34 –   33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 “You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

Jesus teaches us a tree is known by its fruit. What that means is a person is known by their actions, how they live their lives. Also, out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. Whatever is in your heart will come to the surface, and out of your mouth. If a good man speaks from the good treasures of his heart he will produce good fruit, but if a bad man from the bad treasures of his heart produces bad fruit. From the heart one speaks Life, or death. Only one who has been changed in Christ Jesus can produce good fruit from the Holy Spirit.

Fruit is always born in the likeness of the tree it comes from. What a man brings forth is a direct result of what he treasures in his heart. A good treasure will always produce good fruit, and an evil treasure will always produce evil fruit. God has said every intent of the heart is wickedness and evil, so if you think you are a good person, but don’t have Christ then your goodness is evil in Gods eyes.

Because the intent of our hearts is wicked and evil the word of God tells us to guard it always. You heart is so precious it always needs to be protected.

Proverbs 4:23- Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flows the springs of life.

Here in the Hebrew heart is Leb. It still maintains the same meaning of the inner man, or inner self. The Holy Spirit here tells us to guard our hearts. Well What do we need to guard it from? We need to safe guard our hearts from what we allow to come into us. What we meditate on is what is going to come out of us. “The Springs of Life “. The heart and what we allow to come into it will determine the fruit that comes out of it.

Your heart beloved holds in it self all the issues of life, it must abide in the vine always to bear good fruit. The word says if you do not abide and bear good fruit you are taken away and cast into the fire and they are burned. (John chapter 15: 1-11).

God has changed us, made us new and has said it is only when we abide in Him will we be changed and bear fruit that will last. The Lord’s interest in our hearts is evident all though-out the bible. If you want to see amazing change in your walk with the Lord give Him all your Heart!

1 Samuel 16:7- for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

GOD has always been interested in our hearts. HE does not care about our outer appearance, whether we appear to be good, or godly. Jesus condemned the scribes and pharisees for having a form of righteousness but lacking the spirit. HE called them hypocrites.

Luke 16:15 – “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts.

GOD knows our hearts. HE knows the hidden things lurking in the inner man. GOD knows what our true desires, and motives are. There will come a time when HE will shed Light on those things hidden in darkness (1 Corinthians 4: 5).

Proverbs 23: 26 – Give me your heart, my son, and let your eyes delight in my ways.

We are so ready to do, do, do so many things in the name of GOD. God is not interested in the works, or things we do, HE is interested in, and has always been interested in our Hearts. GOD does not want the fruit of our acts first, HE wants the tree that makes the fruit. If the tree (our heart) is given to GOD, the fruit that will be produced will come directly from HIM and it will be good!

We can see clearly  through the text that GOD wants our hearts. The question remains “how much of our hearts does HE want “?

Matthew 22:35-38    One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEARTAND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ 38 “This is the great and foremost commandment.

Deuteronomy 10:12 – Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul

Deuteronomy 4: 29 – But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.

Jeremiah 29:13 – You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

Joel 2:12-13 – Return to Me with all your heart and rend your heart and not your garments.” Now return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, low to anger, abounding in loving-kindness and relenting of evil.

Proverbs 3:1-2 – My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments: 2 For length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.

Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.

All the above passages show us very clearly the requirement of GOD. HE wants all our hearts. Not just a little, not some sometimes, but all of it all the time. GOD wants us to love, seek, serve, trust, depend, on HIM with all our hearts. GOD see’s the heart as a very important thing, I think the smart thing to do would be for us to consider it the same.

The heart is the tree through which all the fruit we bear comes from. If we have good things of GOD in our heart we will bring forth good fruit to GOD.

A requirement of the heart to bear good fruit, is to keep the word of GOD. If you keep the word of GOD, there you will have life

GOD is only interested in the heart of man. Guard your heart, to keep your motives pure. GOD will shed light on what happens in the darkness. He only wants the heart.

JOHN 15:4-8

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them and cast them into the fire and they are burned. 7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.
