What must I do to be Saved?
By: Jamell Adams
This is a strange question to ask. It harbors the sentiment that something is wrong with me, and I need help. What do I need to be saved from? I am a nice person, and most people really enjoy my company. I have never hurt anyone in my life, and I have a great relationship with god.
Well does that about sum it all up? It is very difficult for a person to change a bad habit, if they never see it as a bad habit. If the wheel isn’t broken don’t fix it mentality. It is very sad because in relation to God, He does not see it this way. I have friends who truly belief they are good people and that they have a right relationship with God. It breaks my heart to have to tell them, this just is not the case. The bible clearly says in Isaiah 64:6 that “all our righteous deeds are like filthy garments.” If you believe you have what it takes to be accepted by God on your merits alone, you are sorely mistaken. What I would like to do is show you exactly how God see’s you, and what He has done to remedy the situation. This will be hard to hear for some, but I can assure you, you will never be a Kingdom Citizen without taking this first step.
Let’s start here. This is how we see ourselves, and what we base our relationship with God on. We truly believe this will be enough for God to except us, and if it is not some people really get upset with God.
Well let’s look at what God has to say on the subject. One thing you will notice on this blog is I really like to stay away from my own opinion and give Gods in all thing.
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The Holy Spirit here shows and tells us right off the rip that we all have fallen short of God, and that it is sin that has caused this. Well you can’t say “I have never sinned”, since we see here that all have sinned.
Romans 3:10 – As it is written “there is none righteous, no, not one”. Again, God shows and tells us that there is no righteousness in us. This is a very hard truth for people to except, and unfortunately most can’t believe this to be true. OK look at it this way if you go into a room in your home, can you make that room light, and dark at the same time? It is not possible, light and dark can not exist in the same place, and any intelligent person will admit this. Well God is light, and holy, and righteous, and we are dark, unrighteous, unholy. How can you expect us in our current position to be able to dwell with God? The two can not even be in the same room together.
Romans 5:12 – Therefore, just as through one-man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all men sinned – Adam is our federal head if we are not in Christ. What this simply means is that everything Adam was, we inherited. When Adam fell sin entered the world, and we as children of Adam received in us that same sin nature. Adams sin may not be our sin, but the fact remains as the scripture has pointed out we have our own sin.
So, all this talk about sin. What’s the big deal here guys, I mean ok fine we sin, but everybody does it, it can’t be that bad can it? And if it really is that big of a deal what hope do any of us have?
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin [is] death, but the gift of God [is] eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
There is no other way around it, the bible is very clear if you sin the wages are death. Sin leads to death. Spiritual and then physical death. Sin is disobedience to the word and will of God. So, let me ask you this “your separated from God because of sin, what are you going to do about it”? Well the great news is you don’t have to do anything about it, but except Gods gift!!! This gift is eternal life in Christ Jesus!!!
You don’t have to let sin win, you don’t have to be separated from God, you have a choice. I beg of you to make the right choice today my friend.
Romans 10:9-10 – That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
You will never be saved because you are a good person, nor can you be saved because you do good work. Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace you have been saved. And that, not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not by works, lest any man should boast. God saved you, and He did all the heavy lifting! We can ONLY be saved by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and confessing our sins. Jesus died to pay the price for you, and me, He died to pay the wages of your sin. We must surrender to Him and allow him to be the Lord of our lives. Jesus and John the Baptist started their ministry the same way, both preaching “REPENT” FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS NEAR. Matthew 4:17. To repent means to change your mind or change your ways, to go in an opposite direction. It is an action word. The bible say Godly sorrow leads to repentance.
Romans 10:13 – For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved
Did God hear my prayer? Did He accept me? God promises us that whoever calls on Him, He will receive and call His own. John 1:12 – to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God. If you have believed, then you can have confidence that God has made you his own. You have moved from the darkness and into the light!!! You are now a new creation in Christ Jesus, and that means you are different and no longer under the bondage of that old sin nature.
Romans 10:17 So the faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
You are about to embark on an AMAZING journey in Christ Jesus!!! You should be reading your bible, praying, meeting others in Christ and growing daily. You should confess before men that Jesus is your savior!! Always remember He who the Son sets free is Free indeed!!!
There is Power in Christ if only you would choose to except him today. There is forgiveness in Christ, for he has been given authority on earth to forgive men. There is life in Jesus, for He is the way, the truth, and the Life to all that believe in Him.
Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
PRAISE THE LORD!!
